Aotea stone is a rare gemstone found in only one place on Earth: a remote river valley in South Westland, New Zealand.

A unique blend of earth and ocean

Aotea forms naturally from three minerals coming together:

  • Kyanite: gives it ocean-blue and sky-turquoise tones.
  • Fuchsite: adds layers of forest green.
  • Quartz & mica: form a white base that sparkles in the light.

Because of this natural mix, no two pieces of Aotea look exactly alike, so your pair is genuinely one of a kind.

Aotea is a naturally porous stone. Worn against the skin, it can absorb natural oils over time and may deepen slightly in colour, developing its own character the longer you wear it.

  • Divine Roots: In tribal tradition, the stone is believed to be the physical form of the goddess Waitaiki, giving it a powerful, protective spiritual energy.
  • Deeply Protected: Aotea is incredibly rare and cannot be commercially mined. It is legally protected and looked after by the local sub-tribe, Ngāti Māhaki ki Makaawhio, who gather it with strict respect for the land.
