Nz Kauri Gum, also known as Nz Amber, is the fossilized resin or sap of the Kauri tree. The age of this unique gem can range from a few hundred years to hundreds of thousands of years old, making each piece truly one-of-a-kind.
As a product found in Aotearoa New Zealand, Kauri gum can be considered a variation of amber, although it typically is not as ancient as true amber. The Maori people of the region utilized this gum (known as kāpia) by burning it and combining it with fat to create a pigment for moko tattooing, as well as using it as a fire starter and even as a form of chewing gum.
